Ka nui te mihi ki a koutou katoaSubtitle

Kia ora and welcome to Spotswood College Sport, 2026! An exciting time to be a young person in sport as a nation, region and in particular a school, we evolve our sporting programmes to fit the needs of our rangatahi.

Sport helps to play a key part in the development of our rangatahi as it helps teach many desirable life skills such as teamwork, problem solving, decision making, communication, time and self-management, resilience and perseverance. Alongside these life skills, sport helps give our young people purpose, and a physical outlet for what is becoming more and more a sedentary lifestyle we live.

Our hopes for sport in 2026, is that we can create and provide a sports playing opportunity for all of our students who wish to be involved in sport. We work in partnership with our neighbouring schools, and Regional Sporting Organisations (RSO’s), to ensure we can provide a platform for all young people wanting to participate in organised and recreational sports.

Youth sport is a time when sport is played in its purest form - primarily for fun, and with friends and community. It  is also a time when multiple people give up their time to make sport happen. It takes a lot to ensure young people are afforded the opportunity to be involved in sport, so it will be the job of a collective to help Spotswood College Sport thrive in 2026.

‘Ehara tāku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini - My strength is not as an individual, but as a collective’

SPORTS FEESSubtitle

Spotswood College Sport is proud to provide sports playing opportunities in a range of local, regional and national competitions for our keen and enthusiastic students.

We understand that most of the time participation in these competitions will incur a fee to either enter the competition, or to be registered with the organisation that is facilitating the competition.

As a result of this, Spotswood College encourages a pay to play policy endorsed by the school Board of Trustees.

This means that it is the responsibility of the student and their whānau to commence payment of any fee for a sport that has a cost, prior to the beginning of that sporting season.

There are payment plan options that are available to parents and whānau, as we understand playing sport is an expensive avenue. Automatic Payments can be set up with the Finance Office to ensure fees are paid, and students are not missing out on any opportunities in their sport of choice.

Please note that unless specifically stated, these fees are not set by Spotswood College Sport and will be the fee set by either the Regional Sporting Organisation, or National Sporting Organisation, responsible for the competition students are entered in.

Spotswood College does not profit from sports fees at any point.

Sports Fees are to be paid to the Finance Office and can be paid via cash, eftpos or direct credit. Students' names or their KAMAR ID number will need to be referenced in all direct credits.

Automatic payments can be set up. To do this, forms can be collected from Wendy in the Finance Office. .

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Teachers in Charge (TiC) of sports set the training times according to their sporting code, with games and competitions set by Regional Sports Organisations (RSO’s) overseeing the sport.   Information regarding trials, training, and games, will be shared through the daily notices as well as the communication platforms of those teams.

In the case that students want to play a sport not listed or not on offer, students are encouraged to speak with Matua Carlin Kumeroa (Head of Sport). Simalarly, if you wish to connect with the appropriate person from varying Regional Sport Organisations (RSO's) or National Sports Organisations (NSO's), we encourage you to speak with Matua Carlin Kumeroa.

He can be found in the Sports Office or subsequently be contacted with any enquiries - [email protected]

Please find below our Coaches/Managers agreement of expectations and also our players agreement of expectations. All students must adhere to these expectations to be able to participate in sport here at Spotswood College
