SPORTSHAKINAKINA

Ka nui te mihi ki a koutou katoa

Kia ora and welcome to Spotswood College Sport, 2025! An exciting time to be a young person in sport as a nation, region and in particular a school, we evolve our sporting programmes to fit the needs of our rangatahi.

Sport helps to play a key part in the development of our rangatahi as it helps teach many desirable life skills such as teamwork, problem solving, decision making, communication, time and self-management, resilience and perseverance. Alongside these life skills, sport helps give our young people purpose and a physical outlet for what is becoming more and more a sedentary lifestyle we all live.

Our hopes for sport in 2025, is that we can create and provide a sports playing opportunity for all of our students who wish to be involved in sport. We work in partnership with our neighbouring schools, and Regional Sporting Organisations (RSO’s), to ensure we can provide a platform for all young people wanting to participate in organised and recreational sports.

Youth sport is a time when sport is played in its purest form - primarily for fun, and with friends and community. It  is also a time when multiple people give up their time to make sport happen. It takes a lot to ensure young people are afforded the opportunity to be involved in sport, so it will be the job of a collective to help Spotswood College Sport thrive in 2025.

‘Ehara tāku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini - My strength is not as an individual, but as a collective’

Additional Information:

The Teachers in Charge (TiC) of sports set the training times according to their sporting code, with games and competitions set by Regional Sports Organisations (RSO’s) overseeing the sport.   Information regarding trials, training, and games, will be shared through the daily notices as well as the communication platforms of those teams.

In the case that students want to play a sport not listed or not on offer, students are encouraged to speak with Matua Carlin Kumeroa (Head of Sport), to see what opportunities are available within our sporting community. He can be found in the Sports Office or subsequently be contacted with any enquiries - [email protected]
